Why do people think that God has a favorite religion?  It seems that far too many people I’ve encountered believe that there is a Christian God and no other - that Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, and even certain “other” Christian denominations are praying to false Gods, therefore they will burn in eternal hellfire.  WTF?!

I don’t know where this idea came from – maybe some distorted version of the story of Moses coming down Mount Siani after 40 days, to find Israelites worshiping a golden calf.  Ironically, for those with aforementioned belief of only a Christian God, this story of the golden calf is also in the Qur’an (Koran), but indicates the marker as SamiriAnyways, maybe some twisted view of this story could liken all other religions to the golden calf, therefore saying they aren’t praying to a real God, only their false idols.  Well, I my opinion that is egocentric bullshit.

If you want to try to draw the comparison of the golden calf to other religions, you better do some freakin’ homework.  News flash: most of the religions being condemned come from the same roots as Christianity.  That’s right – Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are all born of the same theological past.  You can ask a Muslim about Moses and he/she will be able to read you many stories about Moses out of the Qu’ran (Koran).

I think the truth is that we all look up.  At the end of the day, we are all trying to look to the infinite.  A great theologian Reihnold Niebuhr once related different religions to water wells.  There are many different types of wells.   People access the well that is closest or the well they feel most comfortable with to get their daily water.  Niebuhr said, “When you dive deep enough into any religion, you will find the spring that feeds them all.”

Isn’t that what we are all doing?  We are all after that same spring, just using different wells to get there.  It is my belief that we all pray to same divine infinite (God, Yahweh, Allah, spring, etc.) and it is small differences that somehow are perceived to be big enough to separate us so very much.

Feel free to disagree and let me know by sending an email. If you want, we'll post it on our website for you, just indicate it in your message.
